چکیده
The programme on the Evaluation of the Carcinogenic Risk of Chemicals to Humans has existed since 1971 and involves the preparation and publication of monographs that evaluate individual chemicals and, more recently, carcinogenic risks resulting from exposures to complex mixtures, since it is in this way that human populations are often exposed. Exposures occurring in the wood and leather industries and in the rubber manufacturing industry were thus the subject of recent IARC monographs. (A full Iist of IARC Monographs, both published and in press, is given in Appendix 1.) The evaluations contained in each volume of monographs are made by ¡ndependent international Working Groups and provide governments and their advisers with authoritative scientific opinions on which to base preventive measures.

Use of natural coagulants for industrial wastewater treatment
Industrial effluents are a menace to the environment and the fact that their characteristics vary from industry-to-industry only adds to the complex challenge they offer to the engineers and scientists. Resource-efficient and environment-friendly solutions to this hazard are a call of the hour. Coagulation, by synthetic chemicals, has been used as a cost-effective and efficient method for manag...

Workers in wood industries are exposed to variable medleys of chemicals, both natural and synthetic. Additional exposures include fungi, bacteria, bark and wood dusts, solvents, paints, and various other wood coatings. These individual and conglomerate exposures have been associated with diverse occupational illnesses and hazards, including cancers. In this commentary, I summarize both experime...

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) generated by ectopic expression of four transcription factors have great promises for regenerative medicine in humans. Since the initial report of iPSCs by viral transfection, ample efforts have been made in the generation of iPSCs through nonviral approaches. Small molecules offer the advantages of low cost without genomic modification and have been used ...
متن کاملChemicals and cancer in humans: first evidence in experimental animals.
Certain human diseases have been traced to exposure to environmental and occupational chemicals. In many instances the first evidence of potential adverse effects came from experimental studies and were subsequently discovered in humans. Associations of human cancers, as a diverse group of diseases, and chemicals have been made since the middle 1700s. Since then, nearly 100 chemicals, mixtures ...
